Video: Video: Five most shocking traffic incidents highlight China’s road dangers

CCTVNEWS has reported on a lot of traffic accidents across China, most of which have shocked netizens time and time again. This clip shows the five videos that have provoked the biggest online reaction.   According to research by the World Health Organization in 2015, more than 1.2 million people die each year on the world’s roads, making road traffic injuries a leading cause of death globally. Most of these deaths are in low- and middle-income countries where rapid economic growth has been accompanied by increased motorization and road traffic injuries.   In China, at least 200,000 people die as a result of road accidents every year. One factor contributing to the number of deaths is that in modern China, particularly in cities, owning a car has become a status symbol. In 1990, 5.5 million people owned cars, but by 2015, some 162 million did, China News Network reported. Thus, the more cars and trucks clogging the streets, the more accidents are likely to occur, particularly when vehicles are steered by inexperienced drivers.
