That was fun Destin!......thanks!!!! Getting a little deep here with the Roll Tide sign.......:) I'm guessing you are thinking those fans start with a little lower O2 saturation and need to be really quick about getting their masks on...however, it could be they don't have the same amount of tissue requiring oxygenation......? You looked so confused in those last moments before Miss Susan re-attached your mask. "...I don't... I don't want to die?" The way you held your hands still and stared off into space with that blank look was kind of scary to watch.? You looked really helpless on those last seconds. What was going through your mind then? Just blank? Can you even remember?? This gave me so much anxiety.? I dont wanna die and he's still smiling. yep I think this is how we should execute criminals from now on. lol? I'm curious about the thought process (or if there was one at all) during those last few seconds before your mask was put back on for you.... It looked a bit like your brain was on idle and you just couldn't quite get rolling toward 'oh, fix the thing'. Do you remember any of that? Did it occur to you that you needed to do A and B to not die and simply get stuck on how to go about them, or was the only thought that crossed your mind 'oh.. death not good. no dead plz'?? Did this make anyone else feel like it was hard to breathe when watching this? "It's a square." I somewhat got scared...? why were you winking when you said i dont wanna die?? 8:20 a real heart-wrenching moment, a grown man reduced to the ability of a 4 year old, a frightening moment.? You can't be so airless about securing your mask.? Before I watched this video I can say 100% I would have put my kids masks before I put my own because I value their lives over mine, but after watching this I will put mine on first. Thank you for this video and all your videos. You are today's Bill Nye and Beakman's World.? This is such a cool video. I had no idea about hypoxia. It sounds kinda scary.? Destin, I was hoping you would address the fact that you did not seem to be able to put you're mask back on. after he instructed you to put it back on the final time, do you think you could have or would have been able to put it back on and flip the switches, or were you truly fully dependant on Susan putting it on for you? they didn't give you a lot of time to react so I'm curious if you felt you could have or would have done it given the time. and one more question: why is it they say hypoxia will set in within 30 seconds under rapid decompression at 35k ft. when I can easily hold my breath for longer than that... some people can hold their breath for several minutes, and while i would crave oxygen, I would not be close to passing out or losing my facilities... what is the difference? thanks.? mathew 7 3: "why look at the speck of dust in your brothers eye when you have a plank in your own"? I've had bouts of pneumonia that reduced my physical capacities greatly, to where I had the mobility of a 3 month old. My mind deteriorated a lot also, but not exactly like this. Fluid was filing the area around my heart and lungs; I felt like I was slowly suffocating over weeks. I don't know why I just got flashbacks to that just by watching this, but it was a great video man. I learned something new today.? Gee don't be such an airhead :) :) :)? Man, that is scary.? Hypoxia: The only humane method of execution. If you can say any form of execution would be humane.? Are there any negative side effects from that experiment in long-term for example?? That was awesome! I never even knew how serious that was, but seeing as you legitimately couldn't even put on your own mask actually scared me a little. This should be shown at preflight instead of the steward/ess instruction.? What about If you held your breath? Is it REALLy possible to explode if the chamber depressurize too fast? If so, can someone explain in laymen's term?? that was scary watching him not be able help himself? So does this mean that because of the reduced pressure the oxygen gets 'sucked out' of your system? I mean if not, then how will rapid decompression cause you to lose consciousness after several seconds? Won't it be just like holding your breath for that time?? Can someone explain to me why the audio quality is so extremely bad when they talk over the headsets? It sounds almost as bad as the first audio recording experiments from 1860.? FFS you'd think nasa would have some better microphones by now fkin computers volume literally at 3% still hurting my ears? If this was at Jackie was it in building 7 if so I was there on the 4 so 1 week ago when did you go? "slow decompression" The drug of the future xD? I have but one question, when you hold your breath, it's like not inhaling oxygen for a moment right? and obviously, most can hold their breaths for over 10 seconds. so what gives?? you would think that they would have better mics its sounds terrible? I saw a flight crash documentary where in cruise altitude the cabin depressurized in a couple seconds, The crew had no chance with the speed in which the oxygen was sucked out of the aircraft. It was frosty in the cockpit. Was that transition to complete helplessness unnoticeable to yourself?? 8:20 is really creepy... You were completely helpless...:S? Destin you should've described what your experience was, what you thought you heard, what you were feeling or thinking.? there is something deeply unsetteling about this episode? i have a question , why you need to put mask on a fighter jet like f-16 for example , but you don't need that in a commercial jet like 747 ?? What happens if you hold your breath? For example say someone on the other side is getting nausea and needs help, could you hold your breath to get to him?? Could he have actually died, and how, he was in a room on the ground. How does that simulate to being in an airplane.? I dont really get what you were breathing in that point? You weren't gasping for air so you must have been breathing something your body mistook for oxygen, right? Was it like pure nitrogen at the end you were breathing?? If you held your brearh right before the decompression, would it help? Or would you be at risk of sustaining injuries like when you hold your breath during ascension while scuba diving? By the way Destin, bravo! Awesome video? What happens if you stop breathing? Maybe pushing your nose together with your fingers to help your body contain the air? Would that even be possible or is the pressure difference so big that the air would just get sucked out of your lungs? Otherwise it should give you well above a minute time if you don't do much oxygen consuming things...? Destin, I don't remember if this was from your video or some other guys video, but what I've seen was if you were in space without a suit on, first thing the gases from your body will escape and blood boils out but you can still be saved within 1 or 2 minutes but lack of oxygen can kill you instantly?? I don't understand the science behind this, so forgive my ignorance, but why at 35,000 feet couldn't you just hold your breath? Is Something about the lack of oxygen that drains your body? The body is a well contained unit, I don't understand how it would drain oxygen. I don't see how you would loose consciousness in less than ten seconds when you can exhale all the way and still hold your breath for about thirty seconds.? as someone who has flown a whole lot in my life, I always use the "airline safety speech simile" every time I talk about metta, and the practice in general. You are no good to anyone else passed out! thanks for this vid :) Mmm. Responding to the metaphor. This is something I particularly struggle with. I'm a very, very, very selfless person. I'm always thinking of others and outright forget to take care of myself a lot of the time. Fantastic video! Thank you for sharing :)
