Video: Video: Michael Bloomberg says China's Xi Jinping is not a dictator. He’s wrong

Earlier this year, Michael Bloomberg in an interview with Margaret Hoover of PBS suggested that China was not a dictatorship, and its leader Xi Jinping was not a dictator. He suggested that Xi and the Chinese Communist Party had to heed the wishes of their constituents just like in a democracy: "The Communisty Party wants to stay in power in China, and they listen to the public. When the public says I can’t breathe the air, Xi Jinping is not a dictator; he has to satisfy his constituents or he’s not going to survive." This is absurd, and totally fails to see how the Communist Party of China limits democratic freedoms, both on the mainland but also in Hong Kong, but also in Xinjiang with the Uighurs there. This also goes to show that while neoliberal centrists like Bloomberg often suggest that the far left and far right don't respect democracy, they themselves will look to excuse a totalitarian nation like China when it suits them.
