Video: Video: Gender and feminism influencing sexual violence and rape culture | Reesa Navani | TEDxYouth@LGS

Sexual assault and violence against women has been a long-standing issue in Australia, and its prevalence in our societies is frightening and disheartening. Reesa Navani, a 16-year-old student, passionately discusses our place in fostering a rape culture, and the influence of feminism on this idea. Ultimately, she hopes to inspire us to question why sexual assault has become so commonplace that it is an experience shared by women worldwide, and urges us to no longer ignore this growing problem. Reesa Navani is a Year 11 student at Lauriston Girls’ School. In a nutshell, she's just another chai-loving, dog-obsessed and Grey’s Anatomy-addicted teenage procrastinator who is passionate about all things feminist as well as all things public speaking and so, combining these two loves is a dream come true. Hopefully, her presentation will provide a deeper perspective into gender-related issues in our society today that are only becomingly increasingly prevalent, as is evident with the #MeToo movement. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
